October 2008 Archives

Here's a quick note for HockeyRefCast listeners. The primary hard disk crashed yesterday on the server where the HockeyRefCast blog is hosted. This resulted in the podcast blog and the podcast feed being temporarily unavailable.

Of course I was personally responsible for restoring all of the backups, so I spent much of the last 24 hours doing just that. I'm exhausted.

I'm not as close to being done with producing this episode as I expected to be. There's one segment that hasn't been recorded yet, and I have to finish some administrative paper work before I get back to the podcast. So it looks like Episode 2 will be delayed until at least the first week of November.

Update on December 4, 2008: Due to a couple of family emergencies that occurred in November, Episode 2 had to be delayed. Yesterday I finished editing the feature interview with Shane Hanlon of the ACHA. Episode 2 should be done and published on iTunes within the next few days.

HockeyRefCast is a webcast about ice hockey officiating.  I'm planning to produce twelve episodes lasting 30 minutes or less that will appear about once a month.  Listeners will be able to subscribe to the webcast via iTunes and other webcast content syndicators.

I'm Dave Aiello and I'm the host of the webcast.  I'm a high school and college ice hockey official from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  I do most of my officiating in the ACHA which is college club hockey in the United States, and in the ECAC which is the largest college varsity hockey league in the country.

HockeyRefCast is a webcast by a hockey official for hockey officials.  If you are an up-and-coming official, I hope that HockeyRefCast gives you some good ideas to help you improve your game.  If you are an experienced official, I hope that you find the feature interviews interesting.

I'll introduce elite-level officials and supervisors to you.  They'll talk about the leagues and programs that they are part of.  They'll tell you about their experiences as officials and how their programs can help you to improve and advance.

Since hockey is an international sport administered by many different organizations, I'll try to find people from different organizations and different countries to talk about officiating in their areas.

You can get involved in the HockeyRefCast in a number of ways.  Visit our website at HockeyRefCast.com.  Tell your friends about the webcast and how to subscribe via iTunes.  Send us an email at our email address hockeyrefcast at gmail.com and tell us what you think of the show.
